The lodge was equipped with an additional emergency exit to ensure its continued use despite newly heightened fire safety requirements. An existing natural stone boulder, which gives the lodge its name, serves as the foundation for the new staircase addition.
This approach drastically reduced the use of concrete. The staircase also provides an additional function: it serves as a terrace for the upper floor.
All components are designed to be reversible.

3D Laser Scan

A 3D laser scan combined with Photogrammetry provided precise data of the rock foundation and the existing building for the planners.

Bedrock, not Concrete!

If we make additions, they should be as simple as possible and with minimal energy usage.

A meaningful intervention.

The lodge bears the word "Rock" in its name, and now it truly rests upon it.

Screw it, don’t clue it!

Circular construction is a priority. It simplifies maintenance and facilitates reuse strategies at the end of the life cycle.

To protect and preserve.

Respecting and preserving existing structures is a fundamental aspect of our understanding of sustainability.

To learn and to value

We try to incorporate and respectfully complement existing structures, materials, patterns, colors, and textures.
